Visit to Harry Potter World

Posted on: September 19th, 2014

Last year I visited Warner Brothers Studios in Leavesden with the family to see the tour of the sets used for the Harry Potter films. The tickets are timed and there was quite a large queue as you entered, however, once inside, the tour took you through some amazingly detailed sets.

At the end of the tour there was a display of a vast array of the most beautiful architectural drawings which are works of art in themselves. This display explained how the initial designs for the sets had become a reality. There were hand drawn plans, sections and elevations of the sets used in the films during the 10 year production period.  The set designer had worked in a very similar way to an Architect. The sketch designs were created, then design drawings and finally working drawings. Rough working models were made from white card, balsa wood and foam board to enable ideas to emerge about filming the sequences prior to the actual sets being constructed.

It was a fabulous visit with something for everyone, whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not!
